In short
Realmfront is a game you buy once and play offline. We receive no personal data from the game. It has no account, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking and no purchases inside the game. Your progress and settings stay on your device. The game only asks the store whether a newer version is out, which you can switch off, and, where a law requires it, asks the store for your age range (see below).
What the game keeps on your device
- Your saved matches, your campaign progress and the maps you made in the map editor.
- Your settings: language, volumes, vibration and graphics.
- This data stays in the storage your device gives the game (in the browser version, the local storage of the website). We cannot read it.
- It is deleted when you uninstall the game. In the browser version it is deleted when you clear the website's data. You can also delete saved matches and maps in the game.
- Keeping it is strictly necessary for the game you asked for, so no consent is needed (Article 5(3) ePrivacy Directive, section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG in Germany). It is not sent to anyone.
Update check
Once a day at most, the game asks the store whether a newer version is out, and if so offers it to you. You can switch this off in the settings (Updates).
- On iPhone and iPad the game sends one request to Apple's App Store (itunes.apple.com). It contains the game's identifier and the country your device is set to. Like every request over the internet it also reaches Apple with your IP address. Apple answers with the newest version number. Apple processes the request under its own privacy policy; we receive nothing from it.
- On Android the game asks the Google Play app on your device. Google Play answers as part of its own service; the game itself does not go online.
- The game remembers on your device when it last asked and which version it offered, so it asks at most once a day and does not repeat itself.
We do this so you get fixes and security updates soon (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in a working and secure game). You may object at any time by switching the check off.
Age range (some regions)
Laws in some regions (the first in Texas in the United States, others follow) require app stores to tell apps a person's age range and whether a parent has approved the app, and require apps to respect it. Where such a law applies to you, the game asks the App Store or Google Play once per start. The store may show its own question the first time.
- The answer is an age range (under 13, 13 to 15, 16 to 17, 18 or older) and, for children with a supervised account, whether a parent has approved the game.
- It stays on your device. The game uses it only to follow the law: where the store says a parent has not approved the game yet, the game waits until they do. It is not saved and not sent to us or anyone else.
- Outside those regions the stores share nothing and the game asks nothing.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in complying with these laws); for players in those regions, the law itself.
Permissions
- On Android the game asks only for vibration, for short haptic feedback. It does not ask for internet access; the update and age checks go through the Google Play app.
- On iOS the game uses no permission that needs your approval. The age question, where it appears, is asked by iOS itself.
- Sound follows your device's silent mode.
Sharing maps
When you copy or export a map, the game hands it to your clipboard or saves it as a file, only when you tell it to. What you do with it afterwards is up to you. Maps you open are read as game data only.
Buying and updating the game
You buy, download and update the game through a store such as the Apple App Store, Google Play or Steam. The store processes your data for this under its own privacy policy and on its own responsibility. We do not receive your name, contact details or payment details from it, only sales figures and statistics that do not identify you.
If you agreed in your device or store settings to share diagnostics with app developers, Apple or Google may pass crash reports on to us. They contain technical facts such as the device model, the system version and where the game failed, but not your name or contact details. We use them only to find and fix errors (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in a game that works) and do not combine them with other data. The store decides how long it keeps them.
The browser demo
The browser demo is delivered by the host of the website maxdittmar.dev, which processes your IP address and the usual technical details of the request to send you the files. The privacy policy of the website explains this. The demo itself requests nothing from other servers and keeps its saves in your browser only.
When you contact us
If you write to us by email or call us, we use your contact details and your message only to answer you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where it concerns the game you bought, otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete them once the matter is settled, unless the law requires us to keep them longer (for example tax law).
Children
We receive no personal data from the game about anyone, children included. Where a law requires it, the game checks with the store whether a parent has approved it (see Age range).
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access the data we hold about you (Article 15), to have it corrected (Article 16) or deleted (Article 17), to restrict its use (Article 18), to receive it in a portable form (Article 20) and to object to its use (Article 21). As we hold no data about players, a request will usually be answered with that, but please write to us whenever you have a question. You can object to the update check at any time by switching it off in the settings.
You may also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one where you live or the one responsible for us: Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
Players outside the European Union
- United States: we do not sell or share personal information, we do not use it for targeted advertising, and we collect none, also not from children under 13. The age range a store gives the game under such a law stays on your device.
- United Kingdom, Switzerland, Brazil, Canada, Japan, South Korea, India, Singapore, Australia and other countries: the same applies. We collect no personal data, and you can reach us with any question at the address above.
Changes
If a later version of the game changes how it handles data, for example with online features, we will update this policy before that version comes out and show the new version in the game. This policy is also published at maxdittmar.dev/legal/realmfront/privacy/.
